BOOKS

It is the Seeing

“Renita Martin’s collection of poems, It is the Seeing, is an intimate reading experience, an invitation to eavesdrop on her memories and thoughts that provide insights into her life’s journey. Her wordsmithing is choreographic, a kaleidoscopic dream that dances across the pages to distinctly Black American rhythms and melodies; down home blues, urban jazz, sweet soul, and hallelujah shouts. Martin’s distinctive Mississippi voice is infused with the cross-pollination of Northern USA, global and Queer cultural influences. Her writing is visceral. Enjoy the ride.”

-Elmo Terry-Morgan, Associate Professor, Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island

Rhythm Visions Never Do Be Finished

“Renita has a way of going inside herself and going inside of other people as well. She’s speaking for so many people. It’s almost like a spiritual thing.”
